The MSU-Northern men’s basketball team has released their conference and non-conference basketball schedule for the 2018-2019 season. The season tips-off for the Lights with a home game October 27th. The month of November will have Northern on the road before hosting their Thanksgiving Classic. Then in late November and early December a brief dip into conference play, then tournament basketball in Phoenix, Arizona December 16th through the 18th. Frontier Conference games comprise the January and February calendar. Head coach of the Lights Shaun Huse likes the competitive make-up of the non-conference schedule and the way the games will keep his team busy almost every week.
“I like our schedule this year because we are in a good rhythm. We have some competition every weekend or really close to those weekends. There’s no breaks in there once we get started. We’re able to get on a good rhythm as far as preparation and competition,” said coach Huse.
The non-conference for the Lights will also serve as an excellent proving ground to get them ready for the always tough Frontier Conference.
“I think we’ve got some really good stiff NAIA competition. That’ll get us ready for conference, or should get us ready for conference play. I’m excited about being able to get the teams up here again for our Thanksgiving tournament. I think that’s real important, to be around here at Thanksgiving,” said coach Huse.
The Lights will play 14 of their last 18 conference games at home which is a big advantage but only if Northern plays well on the road earlier in the season.
“No doubt about it. You love to finish at home if we can. Those games usually have something on the line. We got to take care of the whole conference season otherwise it won’t.”
