The MSU-Northern Women’s basketball team has released their 2018-19 schedule. The Skylights will open their season October 19th in Great Falls at the University of Providence as they take the court against Mount Royal University. The Skylights schedule is 32 games long with 13 games at home, to go along with 18 Frontier Conference match-ups. Northern coach Chris Mouat calls the non-conference phase of the campaign one of the toughest they’ve ever had.
“Minot State, obviously an NCAA Division 2, that’s a huge game for us to get them here in Havre. We’re really thankful they agreed to come up. Arizona Christian was a national tournament team, Westmont played for the National Title. And then we’re playing Science and Arts of Oklahoma who was a sweet 16 team at the National Tournament. Right there, their’s a lot of juice on the schedule.”
The non-conference schedule for the Skylights offers them an opportunity to get ready for the always grueling conference schedule that lies ahead.
“Provides us an opportunity to play some teams, a lot of who will be like league teams at that high caliber. It’s put us in a position to get better. Basically a lot of experience gone, we’re going to have to do that,” said coach Mouat.
The Skylights open conference play in late November with the bulk of Frontier games starting January 4th and running through February 23rd and as always it will be a difficult gauntlet to run through.
“Travel days, where we’re taking off and hitting the road, I think we’ve eliminated some of those this year by flipping the schedule. I think it suites us a little bit better this year to be honest. But you know, again you’re going on the road in the Frontier, it’s going to be tough. You’re going to be playing good teams every night.
