Havre High Track Posts Some Good Results Against GF JV
HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) - The Havre Blue Pony track team competed in a dual meet Tuesday against the Great Falls JV squad.

Although it was a limited field Havre's coaches were able to get some results for their athletes, and judge their progress so far this season. Blue Pony Head Track Coach John Ita wasn't able to attend the dual, but he says one of his assistant coaches, Andy Smith, was really impressed by the performance of pole vaulter Thomas Gruber, who had good attempts at 13 feet. Ita says it's just a matter of time before Gruber clears that mark

Saturday the Havre track team will compete in the Belgrade Invitational. This meet gives the Blue Pony coaches a chance to see other athletes from that region of the state. Ita says Havre's athletic director does a good job of scheduling meets around the state so the Blue Pony coaches can get a look at teams around Montana.

The first events in the Belgrade Invitational start at 9:30 AM.
Havre Softball Getting Ready for More Conference Play
HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) - The Havre Blue Ponies softball team opened their home schedule with a win against Browning last Saturday. Ponies

Ponies Head Coach Dan Wirtzberger says once again his teams' pitching was phenomenal, recording a no hitter. He says they were good on the offensive side as well, with his players being patient in the box and finding some good pitches to swing at.

Wirtzberger says in practice this week they'll continue to do situational work in preperation for a tournament in Conrad this weekend. And focusing on stopping the strengths of the conference opponents Havre will face next week.

The Conrad Tournament takes place this Friday and Saturday.

Havre Youth Hockey Instrumental in Franchise Move
HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) - With a few details to be ironed out, minor league hockey is coming to Havre and will start play in September of this year.

The Glacier National hockey team will be taking up residence in Havre Ice Dome, and Havre youth hockey was instrumental in making this happen. Youth hockey spokesman Brett Patrick says they were initially contacted by the then president of the American West Hockey League, who is also the owner of the Great Falls Americans, who said there was an owner interested in moving to Havre.

Patrick says there was no better time than now to take up this opportunity, with the youth program experiencing growth over the last few years. He also adds there have also been discussions about the minor league players helping out at youth practices.

One of the tasks for the owner of this franchise is finding housing for players. If you're interested in helping out call Butch Kowalka at 406-260-2466.
